Everybody told me to watch the film, 'INCEPTION.'
They said:
"Janet! You'll LOVE Inception; you've gotta watch it".
I've tried 2.5 times.
Sorry, not sorry, Inception.
But I'm just not that into you.
You've got way too much going on.
Jumping back and forth drains my motivation and patience.
And that's how people feel about unclear communication.
We squeeze everything into one meeting, email, or sales pitch.
My suggestion? "Say more with less."
Because email announcements loaded with requests, to-do's, and "save the dates" diffuse the message.
Successful meetings have Desired Outcomes and "Parking Lots" for off-topic tangents. Otherwise, you're inviting people without Impulse Control, to control.
I know you want to make a contribution to the world.
So engage in conscious interpersonal communications.
Like this email is ONLY focused on one thing…
Say. Less. In. Each. Communication.
That's the only message today.
I'm not clouding it with the hundreds of other things I'd like to say (I'll save those for future emails).
When you do that:
emails become more consumable
people know what to do next
meetings happen "in the meeting"
requests have a straightforward "ask"
And, over time, you build self disciplined clarity.
