My beloved dog, Scooter, is a miniature poodle - a mini poo.
He looks a bit feminine.
Everywhere we go, folks say:
"Awwww, what's her name?"
Even after I correct them, they'd persist.
So I tried a bright green Boston Celtics color and accessories.
(On Scooter, not me :p).
Then a New England Patriots sweater.
And a Boston Red Sox tee shirt (for those chilly days).
Still no luck.
Everywhere he goes, people make automatic assumptions.
And they're making assumptions about YOU too.
Maybe not your gender.
But definitely about your work, business, personality, performance and potential.
And once we form a belief, it's hard to form new ones.
This pattern works both ways - the assumptions they make about us and the assumptions we make about them.
Every conversation, zoom meeting, and email is an opportunity to shape people's beliefs about YOU, your work, and more.
